Three vehicles

定义

声闻乘、缘觉乘、菩萨乘。佛教用三乘比喻运载众生渡生死苦海至涅槃彼岸的三种法门。

The three vehicles are the voice-hearing vehicle, the cause-awakened vehicle and the Buddha vehicle. Buddhism uses the three vehicles as a metaphor for the types of Buddhist teaching that bring beings through the sea of suffering of life and death, to reach Nirvana on the other side.
